From Flooded & Frustrated to Fully Restored: Securing a Better Outcome for the Fishers

Location Hereford

Customer Mr F.

“When we now consider all that has occurred in the past 18 months, I can say with absolute certainty that the best decision we made was to contact Morgan Clark.”

The Background & Initial Assessment

When severe flooding struck James and Georgie Fisher’s historic home in Staunton on Wye, the couple were left in a state of deep devastation. Having faced a previous flood event, the situation rapidly escalated into a highly complex, 18-month claim involving two separate insurers and competing Loss Adjusters from each insurance company.

Morgan Clark’s Loss Advisor, Ian, visited the property immediately following the Fisher’s initial inquiry. His calm, clear, and honest guidance provided much-needed stability, making the onboarding process straightforward and stress-free during a critical moment.

The Challenge

The claim presented substantial hurdles over its 18-month duration. Managing two separate insurance policies complicated the adjusting process, while resistance and inaction from the insurers’ appointed representatives created significant friction, delays, and anxiety for the homeowners. Furthermore, because the property is very old, executing structural repairs required a highly considered and accurate technical approach.

The Claim & Strategy

Loss Assessor Ryan Field took complete ownership of the claim, managing all technical correspondence and acting as a protective buffer between Mr and Mrs Fisher and the Loss Adjusters:

  • Strategic negotiation: Ryan employed his deep understanding of the adjusting process to strategically sequence communications, successfully countering the Loss Adjusters’ attempts to unfairly reduce the settlement.
  • Flood resilience secured: Morgan Clark successfully negotiated an additional £10,000.00 “Build Back Better” settlement, securing dedicated funding to install essential flood-mitigation measures.
  • Comprehensive reinstatement: a detailed structural blueprint was established to ensure every hidden defect uncovered during repairs was fully addressed and funded by the insurer.

The Results

The final outcome exceeded the clients’ expectations in both financial settlement and repair quality.

Reflecting on the settlement, James Fisher noted:

“The outcome we obtained was significantly better than that which we would have achieved for ourselves… Ryan’s ability to sequence and style approaches to the adjusters in such a way that a favourable outcome would be more likely is impressive. When adjusters tried to reduce the settlement unfairly, Ryan did an excellent job of convincing them that they were not acting fairly.”

In a handwritten letter sent upon completion, James and Georgie added:“Of all that has transpired in the last year and a half, meeting you has been among our most fortunate events… There have been many times that the inaction of others has caused enormous frustration, anger, and fear. Your constant calm, kind approach and steadfastness in representing us cannot be valued. Simply put, we would not have made it through
