Flooding is on the increase, and it’s now estimated that over five million people in England and Wales now live or work in properties which are at risk of flooding from rivers or the sea. There is some very useful information available to help you protect your property, and to advise you what to do should the worst happen.
Firstly: do you know if your property is at risk from flooding? The Environment Agency’s website provides a clear and simple map service which will tell you at a glance. It also gives valuable advice on how to be fully prepared for a flood and steps you can take to reduce the impact of flooding in your home or business.
Another government website – Directgov – gives a useful eight-point checklist to help you plan ahead if you are at risk from flooding, and how to protect your property. In particular, it gives advice on how to ensure your insurance will cover you in the event of a flood.
Morgan Clark has produced a useful guide on what to do in the aftermath of a flood, to ensure you receive the insurance settlement you are entitled to. You can find out more by visiting our flood insurance claim services page.
