The Royal Wedding is approaching fast, and many communities are putting final plans in place to celebrate together. But insurers have issued a gloomy warning which could take the shine off a street party.
Public holidays usually bring an increase in burglary claims as more people are away. But the holiday on 29th April will pose an additional threat as there will be many more people on the streets ‘coming and going’. So it’s important to remember to close windows and lock doors while out celebrating with neighbours.
A spokesperson at insurer esure has warned that ‘opportunistic thieves could take advantage is they know lots of people are out of their properties with doors open or off the latch. A burglary could happen even if you are only a stone’s throw away or in a neighbour’s garden.’
With more than 4,000 streets closed to traffic for parties, plus many more informal gatherings, the risks across the country are huge. The message is: lock up before you celebrate.
