Building insurance disputes on the rise

One in five of complaints received by the Financial Ombudsman are about buildings insurance. In 2009, 3,437 complaints about buildings insurance were received, with 43 per cent of cases upheld in favour of the consumer.

Many of the complaints concerned claims which had been refused outright. However there were 25 per cent which focused on the quality of work carried out under the terms of the insurance policy.
