Turn a disaster into an opportunity

How can you turn a disaster into an opportunity in the wake of a fire or flood? One couple whose lives were devastated by a fire in their home have achieved this with the help of loss assessors Morgan Clark. They took the opportunity to make long-awaited alterations or extensions to their home which were carried out more economically as part of the overall re-instatement of their property.

The couple’s lives were devastated following a chimney fire in the loft of their five-bedroomed house in Berkshire. Much of the property was gutted and the family had to move out.

After experiencing difficulties in the negotiations with the insurer’s loss adjuster, the couple employed Morgan Clark to handle their insurance claim. The firm managed everything, including initial emergency works, finding temporary accommodation, compiling a complicated insurance claim and supervising the restoration project.

But Morgan Clark also advised that this would be a cost-effective opportunity to carry out major alterations to their house, if they were added to the work needed to re-instate the property. Morgan Clark worked with the surveyors to obtain permission for a rear extension, and significant changes were made to the layout of the house. The couple and their family eventually moved back into an extended and more luxurious home than before.
